What is Sound Mind, Inc.?
Sound Mind, Inc. is a Christ-based, not-for-profit sober living program for men and women that offers an environment free from the influence of alcohol, drugs and derogatory influences under 24/7 supervision. Further, Sound Mind, Inc. will teach the principles of the Bible as a way to live a sober, productive, victorious, and educated life. In addition, Sound Mind, Inc. will offer opportunities for a person to study and test for a GED, explore additional educational opportunities, work with and learn from Peer Recovery Coaches and learn career skills such as writing a resume and how to prepare for a job interview. Also, relapse prevention, and anger management classes and one on one counseling with a license professional counselor will help prepare the individual to be successful in recovery as well as parenting and healthy relationship classes.
What Sound Mind, Inc. is not:
Sound Mind, Inc. is not a medical facility. Those who come to Sound Mind, Inc. will be made fully aware that this is a Christ-based sober living home with Jesus as the cornerstone of the facility, not a backdrop. This means that those who are currently using opiates or benzodiazepine-classed medications will be directed to a different facility that is equipped to medicate in this capacity. In other words, those who come to Sound Mind, Inc. are seeking the direction of Jesus Christ in their life. Furthermore, potential residents will be drug-tested upon entry, and if under the influence of drugs or alcohol, will be referred to a crisis center or detox facility, and then re-evaluated for admission to Sound Mind, Inc. after detoxing. All residents will be provided with a Peer Recovery Coach who will be a guide in their recovery process.
What is the final goal of Sound Mind, Inc.?
The final goal of Sound Mind, Inc. is to empower a person to live above the influence of their environment. Also, the hope is that each person who completes a year at Sound Mind, Inc. will become a part of the ministry of recovery. The concept of Sound Mind, Inc. is taken from passages within the Bible that state “For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2Tim.1:7). Many people have a fear of change, feel as if there is no power available, and have trouble loving or feeling worthy of love. However, Sound Mind, Inc. seeks to change these erroneous views and introduce people to the power and love of Jesus that in return will yield a mind that can be at peace.
